  1. Hola Asia, I really enjoyed watching your video because I like how you managed to express yourself and it allowed me to get to know you better. As a future educator, you already have a great open mind in regards to future ELL learners in your classroom. Learning a second language can be hard to those who struggle, and you stated you already want to teach language arts to be able to help those students who seem to be struggling. Ortega states,"Language teachers across institutions all over the world hotly debate whether students in their classrooms need to be directly taught grammar and vocabulary in order to get the basic building blocks of a language first, or whether it is better to somehow approximate in their classroom the richness of natural language meaning-making processes" (Ortega 2013). I enjoyed listening to you say that you look forward to ELL students being comfortable in your classroom and it seems that it would be a great environment for other students.

    1. I think as future educators, it is very important that we all keep an open mind especially since all of our classes will be filled with diverse students. It is important to me that i make a comfortable environment for my students so they will be willing and eager to participate and learn. Like you mentioned, it is hard to learn a second language and if students come into the classroom and feel like they aren't getting the opportunity as everyone else who is not an ELL student to participate in discussions and group work, then they may shut down. If I can not help that one student be successful in my class, then I have failed. The goal is for everyone to be successful.

  2. Hey! I enjoyed watching your vlog because I feel like you know how to make other ELL students feel invited based on your experience. I also love english language arts and can tell by your vlog that you will be able to help students who may not prosper in English Language Arts. Ortega mentioned that he began to learn Spanish through formal instruction, which made me an instructed learner (Ortega, 2013, p. 6). I feel as if that every student should learn in a certain way and that it depends on the student themselves on the way that they learn.

    1. Thank you Lesley! I think it is very important that all students whether they are ELL or SPED feel invited in the classroom. I like the quote that you used because I think most of the ELL students learn English when they are at school and in the classroom. When the teacher is interacting with them and they are doing their work, I think that is where they get most of their English exposure. I also think that the teacher has a big involvement with how the students learn as well. If the teacher is including multiple interests and strategies to teach then I think students may come across ways to learn something that they did not know about before.
